Esther Ramirez Leon was born on January 30, 1927, in Fresno, CA. Following the passing in 2008, of her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert V. Leon, she courageously reengaged in life by moving from her family home in Madera, CA, to Yosemite Gardens of Clovis, CA in 2010. In November of 2015, she was found to have stage four ovarian cancer. Esther gracefully and bravely embraced the precious balance of her life aided by a tribe of "angels" consisting of family members, friends, caregivers and medical staff of Nancy Hinds Hospice, Yosemite Gardens and Carmel Village of Clovis. Throughout the rest of her life, she brightly colored their worlds and they hers. At the end of her earthly journey, she peacefully passed away lovingly supported by her family on Sunday morning, September 4, 2016.

A graduate of Edison High School, Esther worked as a clerk at National Dollar Store. She met Robert V. Leon in Fresno, CA in 1947. They wed in 1948. Together they raised five children. In the early years, with her husband on duty with the United States Navy and the Merchant Marine, she was a brave military wife, mother and homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary.

Later, Esther was employed by the Fresno Unified School District serving as a special needs teacher's aid for many years. She cared deeply about the children whose lives she touched. She was a natural teacher, giver, healer and helper. She loved to cook delicious meals and to spend time spinning stories, playing cards and laughing. She delighted in children, creatures, nature, art, music, literature, movies, singing, dancing and sports. She was creative and curious. She was a competitive bowler in various leagues and a champion cheerleader. She loved to debate to win! She loved to relax with Robert, family and friends underneath the beautiful summer sunsets of their Madera ranch sky. She was deeply committed to her faith in God and found great comfort in her spiritual beliefs. On September 12, 2008, Esther and Robert celebrated their 60th and final wedding anniversary together. Esther was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Her bright smile and loving presence will be deeply missed by all.

Esther was preceded in death by four sisters, and three brothers.
She will live on in the memories of her adult children, Patricia Fields, Christine Leon-Leland, Bobbi Leon-Cole, Tim Leon, Rick Leon, and their partners; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; many extended family; and countless friends.
